Malcah Zeldis is an American folk painter born in 1931, currently living and working in New York. Her bold, playful works are characterised by their vivid use of colour and flat composition, depicting a wide range of social and celebratory scenes. These include Jewish domestic life, biblical narratives and historical icons such as Martin Luther King and Anne Frank.
Zeldis has illustrated two children’s books, Martin Luther King and Honest Abe, published by Harper Collins. Entirely self-taught, in 1988 she became the first living artist to have a solo exhibition at the American Folk Art Museum, New York.
